Abstract
This article analyses the role of curricular internships in Portuguese higher education, with particular emphasis on the model adopted by the Instituto Superior de Ciências Empresariais e do Turismo (ISCET). Drawing on a theoretical framework supported by national and international scientific literature, the paper explores the potential strengths and limitations of this training practice, highlighting the importance of coordination between higher education institutions and business entities. Based on empirical data regarding the profile of internships carried out at ISCET, the article also discusses the lack of remuneration and its impacts on equity and accessibility to professional opportunities. Finally, it presents recommendations aimed at promoting fairer, more inclusive, and more integrative internship practices.
