Abstract

Today we live in a society where access to information is made easier namely through new technologies and social media, with more educated people than ever, where changes occur very quickly at a global level. Everyday, due to high competition, new technologies and products appear, making people be extremely competitive and individualist that, mobilized by the cultures of their own organizations devaluate the social and citizenship aspects. Considering that the essence of organizations are the individuals, when the former do not instil or enhance citizenship behaviours in their values and conduct code, will make the latter not feel motivated to keep spontaneously this type of behaviour. Many authors argue that organizational citizenship behaviours are social exchange acts, not being merely altruistic and that constitute a benefit to both organizations and workers. Based on these assumptions, we tried to define the organizational citizenship behaviour’s concept and describe a case of application of this management model, which is inter-related with the Human Resource management at a Hospital. The subject of analysis was the Humanization Service (HS) of S. João Hospital Centre, public corporation(CHSJ), aiming to demonstrate that the values and actions lead to better organizational citizenship behaviour, both in terms of the Hospital staff and users.
