Abstract

This paper presents an account of the author’s reflections on the empirical work developed within communities of disadvantaged social backgrounds. It analyzes the importance of the field work for the production of knowledge and the proper implementation of actions and goals, since the success of the intervention depends largely on the interpersonal relationships established between the individual and the social worker. It also alerts to the relevance of understanding and respecting the exclusive identity of each situation without neglecting the reflection on poverty and social exclusion concepts, reflection that should be adjusted to the new social realities.
