Abstract<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This study was carried out with two objectives: to show that, in Paredes, within the gipsy community, many other types of gypsies live together (that may allow to deconstruct the stereotype of a single \u201cgipsy\u201d identity category); to clarify the reasons for success, mediatically recognised, of this minority\u2019s social integration, highlighting, thus, the social mediator figure. It was carried out an analysis concerning the professional practice of the Social Insertion Income team of Miseric\u00f3rdia de Paredes and of other entities that intervene in this community. The methodology was based on literature, data collection in the national and local press, informal interviews, direct observation, social opinion, reports, meetings, home visits, documents, direct approach, group dynamics, videos, individual and group attendance and dialogue. The intervention in this community is seen as a \u201csuccess\u201d and even, if technical opinion considers it as a limited \u201csuccess\u201d, since there is still much to be done, this is enough to have positive expectations and consider feasible to generalize procedures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
